The Spark R&D Surge ST Pro has undergone some changes. In addition to being very light (+/- 140 grams lighter than the Surge), the Surge Pro is also a lot stiffer and more responsive. This saving and change in flex is mainly achieved by replacing the hardware, carbon in the highbacks and Pebax platic in the straps. ST stands for 'smooth touring' where friction and wear are eliminated. The whammy bar (heel riser) is connected to the binding and ensures that the crampons always fully engage.
